Skillshare | Unbecoming: The Journey of Black Men Stepping into Healing

Skillshare | Unbecoming: The Journey of Black Men Stepping into Healing

The Collective Skillshare is a dynamic lunch-and-learn style workshop series designed to foster ongoing professional development and community connection. This month, we have the pleasure of learning from and with fellow member Kaleb Sinclair.

This workshop invites practitioners and care providers into an honest look at the narratives Black men are handed before they ever have the ability to conjure language for themselves. We will explore what these narratives cost in the real world and in the room where care happens. The session moves from where these stories originated to the importance of returning to what we know but too often forget: that we heal through one another. Through connection, witnessing, shared grief, and communal joy, we'll reimagine what it means to support Black men in unbecoming what no longer serves them and honoring what does. We'll close by turning that same lens on ourselves as practitioners, naming the blind spots we bring into the room. You will leave with language, practices, and a renewed sense that healing has never been a solo endeavor. It has always happened in relationship, in community, and in the company of people willing to stay present.

Through this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify dominant narratives placed on Black men

  • Discover how naming, defining, and processing grief is essential to the work with Black men

  • Explore essential healing practices overlooked or minimized by western psychology

  • Recognize blind spots and bias that impact therapeutic alliance
