What sets us apart?

In nature, healthy, thriving eco-systems are reciprocal. Key indicators are biodiversity; strong, interconnected roots; and whole system flourishing. 

In a capitalist culture, business is competitive, protective, and focused on the best interests of the few. There are non-compete agreements, non-disclosure clauses, gatekeeping, and often, exploitation. The mental health and wellness sectors are not exempt from this. 

Shelterwood Collective’s business model is rooted in reciprocity. We aren’t an agency or group practice. We are a
co-op of independent business owners
. We exist to provide services that empower and generate value for our member community.

Members pay a flat fee for access to services that align with their practice needs. There are no non-compete agreements, and members can change their level of support as their practices evolve and mature. 

Our goal is to bring together independent practitioners, each with our own unique businesses and practices, to provide services that promote sustainability, giving/receiving, community, and flourishing.

Collective Membership

For $90/month you’ll receive access to Shelterwood Collective’s:

  • Your own web page on shelterwoodcollective.com with a custom URL to enhance search results.

    Some practitioners use this as their primary web presence (in lieu of their own website).

  • Benefit from our credibility in the community and our free matching service for clients.

    We have a full-time intake team that field inquires, provide heartfelt intake phone calls, and connect clients with a practitioner that aligns with their needs.

    We are well networked and have referral partnerships with several schools, universities, human resource departments, and restaurant groups.

    We receive over between 10 and 30 referrals a week and have helped match over 500 clients with practitioners so far this year.

    We know that the relationship that develops between the client and their practitioner is so important — research shows that it is the most significant indicator of transformation. We are honored to know you and privileged to make these connections. We regularly receive notes from clients thanking us for hearing them and for our thoughtful match.

    This service is where Shelterwood Collective invests most of its time and human resources — it’s a big part of our why!

  • Practicing as a healer can be isolating. Being a solopreneur can leave us longing for a team.

    All community members receive access to SLACK, which offers a virtual space for our community to connect, ask questions, give/receive referrals

    We are a co-operative and this space is about connecting with co-workers and sharing resources

    We have conversation channels for #stayingconnecting, #referrals, #questions, #bizdev, and #insurance. We also have channels for connecting with fellow members with shared identities (#BIPOC, #LBGQT) and by region to foster IRL touch points.

  • Collective Gathering — a monthly virtual circle for us to witness and be witnessed, receive connection and nourishment, and be inspired by new learning.

    Greenhouse Workshop — a monthly virtual lab to work on your business, receive coaching and mentorship, and community with fellow small business owners.

    These offerings are free for members and all who attend receive 1 CEU per offering.

    Communal Meet Ups — a quarterly in person gathering with fellow members. These are lighthearted spaces to connect as humans — shared meals, happy hours, and park hangs – every October, February, May, and August.

    Seasonal Rituals — a quarterly gathering to foster connection to the greater collective and to tend to our own spirits. Our annual circle begins with the Autumn Equinox (September), continues with the Winter Solstice (December), Spring Equinox (March), and closes with the Summer Solstice (June).

  • Benefit from the trust Shelterwood Collective has garnered in the community.

    Leverage our public calendar, social media channels, and newsletter to promote your group or workshop.

    Utilize our logo, business card template, and other brand collateral, if desired.

  • Receive access to an ever-growing virtual library of templates, how-to’s, and best practices through our members-only portal.

  • Our home location in Pioneer Square can serve as a business address for your virtual or hybrid practice.

    We can serve as your Registered Agent on your PLLC, which allows us to receive mail on your behalf. We process mail weekly, manage a digital mailbox for each member, and mail hard copies to your mailing address when applicable (e.g. professional license, checks)

  • In the event of an emergency (god forbid) we will serve as a professional point person for your practice, ensuring that your clients receive continuity of care.

  • Special member rates are available for:

    Workshops, rituals, retreats, and other gatherings

    Coaching, consultation, and supervision

    Trainings and continuing education offerings

    Ongoing space membership at our Pioneer Square home base

    One-time or short term space use for workshops/gatherings

    If you are offering a free, one-time event, you can request to use our space for free. Subject to availability.

Affiliate Membership

We make it easier for therapists to accept insurance, so clients can find accessible, in-network care.

Our billing services give you valuable time back to focus your energy on your clients and your own well-being.

For $275/month you will receive all of the benefits of our Community Membership, plus this additional access and full-service billing administration.

  • Shelterwood Collective has group contracts with Premera, Lifewise, Blue Cross, Regence, Blue Shield, First Choice, and Kaiser PPO.

    By offering in-network services, practitioners received:

    • Increased referrals from clients seeking in-network care

    • Increased retention from greater accessibility and affordability for clients

  • You will receive full service support to associate you with Shelterwood Collective’s contracts.

    With Shelterwood’s TIN and NPI, affiliate level members of any license level can begin billing in network with Premera, Lifewise, and Blue Cross right away.

    In network status with Regence, Blue Shield, First Choice, and Kaiser PPO is currently only available to fully licensed practitioners. Joining these panels through Shelterwood Collective’s group contracts expedites credentialing and contracting to less than 45 days.

  • Affiliate Membership is open to associate and fully licensed mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and clinical social workers.

  • We provide full service billing administration so you can focus on your clients:

    Eligibility and benefits are confirmed and outlined by our team so you can easily empower potential clients with this information before your first session.

    We handle new client onboarding to ensure all insurance information ready to go for easy and accurate claim submissions moving forward. 

    We submit claims for in and out of network services for you on a weekly basis and track these claims all the way to payment.

    We take care of communications with the insurance companies if an issue arises — protecting you from time on hold and looping you in with any pertinent information for you and your clients.

  • We process incoming payments (insurance, copays/coinsurance, and self pay) on a weekly basis and issue your earnings directly to your bank account.

  • You will receive detailed explanation of payment ledgers so you know what has been received on your behalf and which sessions they apply to.

    You will also have access to real-time claims statuses and automatic payment reconciliation that is triple checked by our billing team.

  • Your affiliate membership includes a clinician-level Sessions EHR account (valued at $40/month) with access to a library of attorney-vetted disclosures, consent documents, forms, and assessments loaded and ready to go.

  • Most of us didn’t receive training on how to work with insurance in our programs. Even though we’re managing your billing for you, we take time to empower you with information to serve you and your clients.

    We provide how-to videos, trainings, and best practices to empower you in this aspect of your practice.

    We also foster community with an insurance-specific Slack channel for collaborating, asking questions, and sharing tips.

  • We welcome folks together consistently to get to know us as a cooperative and connect with other potential members. You’ll have an opportunity to meet some of our team and ask questions to support your discernment process.

  • After your discovery session we will send you an invitation to complete our membership application. This application takes about 20-30 minutes to fill out and offers us more context about you, your practice, the support you’re looking for in this season, and how you hope to give and receive from this community.

  • After you submit your application, you will receive a link to schedule a phone interview with Nicole Greenwald. This 30-minute conversation will offer space to build a deeper connection, align around our core values, and engage any questions that may be coming up for you.

  • If we mutually agree to move forward with membership following our phone interview your next step is to sign your membership agreement. We have two membership level: Collective Membership and Affiliate Membership. Our membership terms begin on the 1st of the month for a period of 12 months (e.g. April 1, 2022 - March 31, 2023). You will receive a link to review and sign your membership agreement via our esignature tool, Signwell.

  • We facilitate onboarding session for each new member cohort. This is an intentional time designed to orient you to our community rhythms, systems, and resources; begin building connection with other new members; and empower you as you step into the terrain of your healing practice.

    Participating in an onboarding session is really important and we ask you to prioritize being present.

    Affiliate members have an additional onboarding session designed to orient you to billing and insurance processes and best practices.
