Bi-Monthly Community Paddle + Networking Group
A supportive, bi-monthly, outdoor gathering for therapists and helping professionals to connect, decompress, and build community. We meet twice a month at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland for conversation, fresh air, and optional paddleboarding or kayaking in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
We meet every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month starting in July from 10:00am–12:00pm, rain or shine. The group meets at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland, WA, gathering first on the shore before heading out on the water.
Is the group open to new members?
Yes! The group is open to new members, especially therapists, helping professionals, and anyone in caregiving roles who is looking for community, connection, and time outdoors. Free of cost with all Shelterwood members are welcome!
Who is it for?
This group is designed for therapists, healthcare providers, educators, and other helping professionals who spend much of their time indoors holding space for others. It’s also welcoming to anyone craving grounded community, nervous system support, and outdoor connection.
What the group is about?
This is a weekly networking and community gathering created to help us step out of our offices and into the natural world together. The group offers space for meaningful conversation, fresh air, gentle movement, and nervous system restoration through paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply connecting on the beach. The intention is to cultivate authentic community, reduce isolation, and create moments of play and presence alongside others in helping professions.

Whitney Taylor
she/her
I'm Whitney, a therapist, outdoor enthusiast, and community builder who believes some of our most meaningful healing happens both in relationship and in connection with the natural world.
As a therapist, I primarily support individuals navigating trauma, life transitions, identity exploration, and the challenges of being human in an increasingly busy world. My work is grounded in curiosity, authenticity, and helping people reconnect with themselves in ways that feel sustainable and meaningful.
My passion for integrating nature and healing extends beyond the therapy room. I previously used to work as a Surf Therapist at Groundswell based in San Diego, California, supporting individuals through ocean-based experiences that foster resilience, connection, confidence, and growth. Witnessing the ways people transform when given the opportunity to engage with themselves, others, and the natural environment continues to shape my approach to both therapy and community building.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent much of my professional career leading groups in outdoor spaces. I worked as a kayak and paddleboard instructor, received wilderness and outdoor leadership training, and facilitated experiences that helped people build confidence, connection, and a sense of adventure. I have also partnered with organizations such as SheJumps, REI, and Outdoor Research in creating opportunities for women and girls to access outdoor experiences, develop community, and cultivate belonging in nature.
Whether on the water, in the mountains, or in the therapy room, my work has always centered around creating spaces where people can feel supported, challenged, connected, and fully themselves. The Paddle & Connect gatherings are an extension of that passion—bringing together helping professionals and community members to step outside, build relationships, and experience the restorative power of being on the water together.
