This workshop, facilitated by Drew Alt, explores the therapeutic potential of Holotropic Breathwork as a modality for healing, insight, and transformation. Rooted in depth psychology and influenced by mystical traditions of the world, Holotropic Breathwork invites expanded states of consciousness as a pathway for care and self-discovery.
This offering is for practitioners, healers, and those who support others, especially those who recognize that their own re-emergence is integral to their work. It is also for those curious about referring others to Holotropic Breathwork or integrating expanded-state frameworks into their practice.
The intent of this Skillshare is to introduce Holotropic Breathwork as a meaningful complement to dominant European / Euro-American approaches to therapeutic work, which have historically privileged cognitive and measurable ways of knowing. Together, we will explore broader epistemologies—ways of knowing that include the emotional (affective), the embodied and will-driven (conative), and the spiritual or transpersonal. This workshop honors that many cultures have long recognized these domains as central to healing and meaning-making.
Participants will be introduced to key contributions from Holotropic Breathwork and the work of Stanislav Grof, including:
The concept of an inner healing intelligence that guides the unfolding of material in expanded states
An expanded map of the unconscious that includes biographical, perinatal (birth-related), and transpersonal dimensions
The potential for accelerated insight and transformation through non-ordinary states of consciousness
Participants can expect to leave with a deeper understanding of Holotropic Breathwork, a broader framework for conceptualizing the psyche, and practical insight into how to support others engaging in expanded-state experiences.
Through this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe the core principles and historical context of Holotropic Breathwork
Explore expanded states of consciousness as meaningful avenues for healing and transformation
Articulate a broader map of the psyche, including biographical, perinatal, and transpersonal dimensions
