This month’s Skillshare will be a lunch-and-learn style conversation about recent and emerging changes in healthcare law and policy—and what they mean for our work as healers.
Over the summer, Washington state enacted updates to healthcare-related laws affecting confidentiality. At the same time, there’s been increasing dialogue about federal scrutiny and the potential risks of common clinical practices (such as having clients complete extremely detailed intake questionnaires) for immigrant, trans, BIPOC, neurodivergent, and other marginalized clients.
Together we will:
Review key updates from the Washington state legislature, Department of Health, and insights from our attorney
Discuss how these changes intersect with real-world scenarios in our practices (e.g. information we collect, how we document, how we consult/collaborate)
Explore the role of clinical discernment in navigating gray areas where the law leaves room for interpretation
Share insights, strategies, and questions in community
While the laws set the parameters, our values and discernment shape how we implement them. This will be a space to stay informed, think critically, and draw on our collective wisdom to support our clients and ourselves.
