Psychotherapist

(they/them)

Hey there! I’m Jen. As a therapist, and human in general, I am passionate about creating space for the stories and emotions that are so often pushed away, hidden from view, and disavowed. I believe that to be seen and heard in these tender places can be a profoundly healing experience, even (and especially) when there is "nothing to do about it," other than bear witness and grieve. An important piece of this process is moving towards a way of being that centers less around achieving, perfecting or "doing" and much more around “being.” Being present, being messy, being perfectly imperfect and ok with slow processes and uncertainties. It is here that we may begin to build the spaciousness to hold and be in relationship with all that is unresolved in our hearts, bodies, and life stories.

I utilize an eclectic, client-led approach to therapy. The foundation of my work is based in a relational psychodynamic approach with influences from somatic experiencing, attachment theory, and dialectical behavior therapy. With this, I believe that our stories, relationships, and experiences, and how we talk about them, deeply influence our emotional well-being. Therapy with me is largely about learning how to deeply listen to the particularities of your story and the meaning making you engage in the past and present; it is here that story holds its transformative healing power. Together we will also pay attention to how your current and past relationships, and the culture we live in, have influenced the way you now relate to others and yourself. I also take a holistic, somatic approach to healing, meaning that I believe we must incorporate mind, body and emotions in the healing process. This will often involve learning to expand our capacity to feel safe (or safer) within a wider range of emotions and nervous system responses as we engage with your story. My role is to witness and enter into this process with you, a guide into the unknown through embodied exploration, conversation, and play.

I am an approved supervisor within the state of Washington. I practice with a queer, intersectional feminist, anti-oppression, weight neutral lens. I aim to honor the whole person, to hold each individual’s unique, intersectional identities with an understanding that these influence how we engage and are engaged by others. I welcome clients of all races, ages, sexualities, gender identities, religions, backgrounds, and sizes.
