Matthew Sorg, LMHC
Psychotherapist
(he/him)
I help thoughtful adults turn overwhelm, shame, and old survival patterns into a more coherent, grounded sense of self. My work centers on how trauma, disconnection, and early relational injuries shape your experience of the world—and how awareness, embodiment, and meaning-making open pathways toward healing. I integrate existential–phenomenological therapy with EMDR, Brainspotting, Flash Technique, and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. This isn’t symptom management; it’s depth work that helps you feel more alive, connected, and whole.
My path into therapy began with studying English literature and modernist poetry at Reed College, where I first encountered phenomenology—the study of lived experience. I spent over a decade in scholarly publishing and information architecture, learning to organize complexity and help people make sense of overwhelming systems. When I returned to graduate school for my MA in Existential-Phenomenological Psychology at Seattle University, everything came into focus: the philosophical grounding, the structural thinking, and the clinical work all pointed toward helping people integrate fragmented experience.
Today, I teach counseling courses at Seattle University and maintain a private practice on Capitol Hill. I’m pursuing advanced training in psychedelic-assisted therapy (KAP certification through Journey Clinical and Fluence) and somatic therapies (Hakomi training). Outside the therapy room, you’ll usually find me reading modernist poetry, quilting, or hiking the Pacific Northwest.
I specialize in working with trauma survivors, men navigating emotional shutdown or anger, and LGBTQ+ adults healing shame and identity wounds. Many of my clients are systems-minded people with rich inner lives—individuals who sense that healing requires attention to both their inner world and the patterns surrounding them. I work with adults in their 20s who want to interrupt patterns early, and those in midlife who are ready to unwind decades of surviving. I offer weekly therapy, trauma intensives, KAP preparation and integration, and psychedelic integration support for adults across Washington State.
