Definitely Not a Cult

  • In Person - The Studio at Shelterwood Collective 108 South Jackson Street Seattle, WA, 98104 United States (map)

Join us for our monthly gathering of bodies and souls, for two hours of ritual, presence, and embodiment in community. This October 11th, to honor the spooky season, we will make space for FEAR/+/DESIRE. Through somatic practice and sensory play we will explore how we can connect to our immediate wants and needs while becoming more deeply aware of how fear and anxiety can limit our connection to these desires. We invite you to come in with curiosity and leave with a sense of agency and an enriched knowledge of yourself.

Ritual is a portal. It can help us access things we don’t always make space for: desire, grief, rage, celebration, pleasure, play, revelry.

Join us for a monthly gathering where we will step outside of our everyday routines and connect more deeply with ourselves and each other. Together we will engage in a carefully chosen ritual to meet the energy of the season and facilitate the embodiment of a shared human experience. Each ritual will facilitate presence and witnessing through our senses. Some elements they may include are water, fire, earth, touch, sound, music and movement. Each gathering will hold space for reflection, witnessing, and being held in community.

Come as you are, in your rawness, your fullness, your grimy little freak spirit. Reconnect to your wild and sacred animal body. While all are welcome, this space will center queerness in identity and praxis. ✧

We will meet (usually) the 3rd Sunday of each month from 6:00-8:00pm, and while we hope to cultivate an ongoing group we welcome new participants at each gathering.

Container

We will meet in person in The Studio at Shelterwood Collective. We will begin with a circle opening and brief introductions and spend some time orienting you to the season and ritual. We will then spend time in ritual practice itself, which will flow into time for contemplation and reflection. Afterwards we will open the circle to sharing and connection, and finally, we will close with a short somatic practice ♡

All you need to bring is a journal, pen and an open heart and mind. If you wish to bring a small personal object to place on a shared altar, such as a stone, a photo, a poem, or a trinket, feel free to do so. You will retrieve your item when the ritual closes.

Exchange

The cost for this event is $25-75 sliding scale with no one turned away for lack of funds.

kit weathers

I’m kit weathers. I believe ritual is a portal through which we can connect with ourselves and each other in deep and significant ways. As a therapist working with a number of clients who have left religious environments, I kept noticing a longing for spaces where people can be in community and engage in meaningful shared ceremony and practice together. This offering is an attempt at providing that space, and is informed by my work as a queer/trans sex and relationship therapist, as well as my own practices of using ritual to connect with my body, desires, emotions, and truest self.

Carissa Singh

My name is Carissa Singh, I come to this work through an interwoven background of frontline and backline activism, mental health and crisis care, therapeutic and teaching work. I am informed by liberation psychology, existentialism, and healing justice movements as well as poets, witches, anarchists and antagonists. I began holding rituals inspired by the Pagan calendar in 2020 and have borne witness to their power in helping us delve deeper into our collective humanity while also allowing us to connect more fully to nature, spirit and ourselves.
