Skillshare | Indigenous Historical Trauma & You
The Collective Skillshare is our lunch-and-learn series — an hour to sharpen a skill, sit with a hard question, and stay in practice together. This month we have the pleasure of learning from and with fellow member Julene Pommert.
Much of what our clients carry did not begin with them. Julene will trace the history of Native historical trauma in the U.S., Canada, and beyond, and then follow a second thread: how trauma moved through white bodies across generations and later came to land on the lives of people of color.
Drawing on Resmaa Menakem's My Grandmother's Hands alongside other sources, Julene will offer a broader understanding of how generational/cultural history has an impact similar to Adverse Childhood Experiences. We’ll consider how that shapes our clients’ lives today and how we can learn to recognize it in the room.
You'll leave with:
A working understanding of Native historical trauma and its ongoing reach
A clearer map of how oppression travels between bodies and across generations
Language for naming generational and cultural history as a clinical factor, not just a context
Practical tools for meeting oppression-inspired trauma and dissociation in your clients' lives

We will meet virtually via Zoom. You’ll receive the link to join the morning of the offering.
