Meeting Yourself Where You Are: An Introduction to Working with Flower Essences

This experiential class is an introduction to working with flower essences as gentle supports for healing and self-awareness, and an invitation to deepen into reciprocity with the world around us.

Facilitated by herbalist and flower essence practitioner Phelicia Okon Magnusson, together we will explore what flower essences are, how they are made, and how they can be taken internally or applied topically as part of a wellness or healing practice. Participants will have the opportunity to work directly with flower essences during the session.

Flower essences are a subtle, energetic medicine that meet people where they are. They can support emotional processing, help shift patterns and narratives held in the body and psyche, and offer a way to approach healing with more gentleness and curiosity.

This class is open to individuals interested in working with flower essences for their own healing, as well as practitioners curious about supporting their own capacity or incorporating flower essences into their work with clients.

Together we will practice noticing where sensation arises in the body and tracking emotions and awareness as they unfold. By the end of the class, participants will leave with a deeper sense of how flower essences invite us into deeper relationship with ourselves and with the living world around us.

Phelicia Okon Magnusson

Phelicia is a queer black herbalist and flower essence practitioner. Her work centers folks of color who are affirming their wholeness by healing generational trauma, moving though narratives of shame, exploring sexuality and returning to their intuition and resilience in the face of oppression.

Her formal training took place at Arbor Vitae School of Traditional Western Herbalism in New York City, with Delta Gardens in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, with Shayne Case in Portland, Oregon, with Dony Cotrina at El Centro De Guadelupe Chaska Suya in Iquitos, Peru and in many deep dives of self inquiry. Phelicia is particularly interested in the intersection of ritual, healing and community.

Phelicia has a great deal of gratitude and awe for the plants themselves, the infinite wisdom they hold, and the elders and traditions that hold plant wisdom sacred. In her work, Phelicia’s mission is to be a medium between plants and people and to support individuals in reconnecting with the wisdom of their bodies and the missions of their hearts.
