Psychotherapist

(she/her)

Has personal and/or historical trauma gotten you down? Do you long for resolutions to perplexing behaviors you keep doing? Do you feel that you are different from other folks and long for connections?

If you have suffered from little t or big T traumas, if you have been labeled on the autism spectrum, if you have experienced hate because of the way you look or act, then I invite you to come spend time with me. Let’s see if we can work together to heal the hurt.

I am a person of mixed race, White and Native American (Blackfeet and Crow), an identical twin, mother and wife; knowing myself in relationship.

I love working with EMDR, somatic treatments, narrative therapy, and imaginative practices. My clients have tended to say that I am warm and welcoming, insightful and have a good sense of humor. I enjoy play.

I have my Ph.D, in Speech Communication (1998) from the University of Washington, where I studied intercultural communication and conflict, focusing on American women and Egyptian women talking about conflict in Cairo, Egypt (where my husband and I lived for a year). Much later, friends noted that I was good with talking with people and encouraged me to get a counseling degree. After much thought and prayer, I entered the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, and earned my master’s in counseling in 2014.

Besides being a professor (2016-present, NAIITS) and counselor, I have also worked as a seamstress, baker, factory worker making robotic arms, waitress, nursing aid assistant, donut finisher, and journalist. Each of these jobs has enriched my life and helped me be who I am today.

Your world is as big as you make it./ I know, for I used to abide/ in the narrowest nest in a corner,/ my wings pressing close to my sides./ Then I sighted the distant horizon/ where the skyline encircled the sea,/ and I throbbed with a burning desire/ to travel this immensity./ I battered the cordons around me/ and cradled my wings on the breeze,/ then soared to the uttermost reaches/ with rapture, with power, with ease.
