Psychotherapist

(they/them)

I’m Arin Gautreaux, MSW, LICSW (they/them), and I’m glad that you’re here.

As a disabled, trans, neurodivergent clinician, I understand the positive impact of working with a clinician who has multiple shared experiences of identity and marginalization. This also means that as a clinician, my approach is both collaborative and at times unorthodox.  I approach this work with compassion, gentle humor, and direct communication.

We may work well together if…
You are exploring your gender identity and looking for support from a provider who you don't have to educate about trans issues. You are struggling with executive function and motivation, big feelings, tough relationships with others, or how to cope with a world that feels isolating and draining.
You are ready to make a change and feel overwhelmed by where to start.

Shame, fear, and judgement often keep us trapped in behavior that may have been protective at one time but that no longer serves us.  I view therapy as a process of looking at your internal landscape and learning the tools to heal and grow. I named my business Curiosity Over Fear because I believe that much of this healing work involves exploring those things that make us afraid with gentle curiosity instead of judgement or shame. This is an active process over time that happens by learning how to sit with strong emotions and learn from them, while practicing skills to help us manage daily stress and larger issues without making the situation worse.

I work well with individuals who have disliked traditional “talk therapy” and who are looking to build a better connection between mind and body. I work with adults and older teens (16+) with depression, anxiety, and life transitions. I am a queer provider who has worked with folks in the LGBTQ+ community for over twelve years, seven of which were in mental health. I love working with folks who have or suspect they have ADHD on how to build executive function in a way that works for them. I also have experience working with kink and polyamory/ethical non-monogamy.

As for who I am, I'm a therapist,  student, teacher, amateur photographer, and artist.  I started doing healing work professionally as a peer counselor in 2018, which then led to me pursuing my Masters in Social Work with University of Washington Tacoma. I graduated in 2023 and am currently a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with the state of Washington. I am someone who has lived experience of the mental health system, and that experience informs my work.

I found myself saying, ‘I want to accept myself completely, just as I am.’ I reached out to the universe to help me do that and found an openness and tenderness I’d never experienced before. I knew I could hold myself with that absolute love and compassion.
